In this dual-campaign project, we were challenged to create inclusive visual designs using Adobe platforms. The primary goal was to create our own inclusive campaign for graphic designers, as well as to support a real-life organization through visual storytelling.

For my first campaign, I developed an original idea using the #EquityInEveryPixel, which focused on the importance of designing strategically with accessibility across all mediums. Whether it was print or digital, this campaign focuses on the belief that inclusive design is a responsibility across all graphic designers. My goal of my campaign was the create a project to educate others on inclusivity and why it matters at every stage of the design process.

I used information that I had learned from my courses at Elon University alongside my research. I incorporated key facts, tips, and inclusive language into my content. I then supported this by creating custom graphics that helped convey these ideas in a clear, enticing way. By using my custom hashtag, #EquityInEveryPixel, I reinforced the idea that inclusion is a must within the design space.

I created a custom color palette that was easy to read and use for all audiences, including those with visual impairments. I focused on readability and clarity within my creations, allowing for my final campaign to be educational and visually appealing.

My research process included studying core principles of inclusive design. I researched accessibility standards, cultural sensitivity, and representation, as well as looking through my past class materials. I experimented with multiple layouts to find a perfect balance between inclusivity and visual impact. This process allowed me to refine my approach and make sure all of my designs can serve their mission in an accessible and powerful way.

For my second campaign, I was challenged to select an existing organization and create an Instagram campaign based on their mission. I chose StrongMinds, a global nonprofit committed to making mental health care accessible to under-resourced communities. Their belief that mental health is a human right aligned with my values, and I wanted to create visuals that enhanced their mission. I used the #FromPainToProgress to showcase the journey of healing and impact of a community based mental health program.

I began my project by studying the StrongMinds website, paying close attention to their visual identity, values, and audience. I then developed my campaign concept using storytelling and design. I created original graphics, as well as using their existing images to convey their mission of strength and recovery. The tone of my project was centered on hope and support throughout, highlighting my goal of making visuals that inform and inspire others to have emotional resilience.

I designed using their preexisting color palette that was soft yet bold, creating a therapeutic tone with powerful colors. My typography was centered along strong text to showcase clarity, ensuring that every post in the campaign was inviting and accessible.

My research process included gaining knowledge in other nonprofit strategies, analyzing StrongMinds’ tone and voice, and applying my previous courses on ethical communication to this project. I explored multiple ways to approach mental health with respect, as many view it as a sensitive topic. Finding an effective layout to help with messaging allowed me to incorporate my designs into a campaign that is both inspiring and visually effective.
